Sāgar Kināre

A beautiful song from the movie Sāgar [1985] was composed by R.D.Burman and the song was written by Javed Akhtar and the duet sung by Lata Mangeshkar & Kishore Kumar and also R.D.Burman won the Filmfare Award - Best Music Director in [1986] for the movie Sāgar.

The song was tuned and harmonized based on the ragaa Yaman but in the western way it goes in the scale of F major.

Continue reading to get the Chords/TAB of the song along with a brief explanation...

This is one of my all time favorite song; the melody goes well with a guitar or violin rather than the other kind of instruments, because of the sliding phase found in many parts of the melody is perfectly fits on any kinda string instruments; as well the song has a beautiful ending pattern found in each end of the chorus and the verse, that part gives an stubborn beauty to the melody. Wow! That part will mesmerize any mind that musically addicted. Try once you may find the precision behind this everlasting melody.

Technically the time signature of the song is 4/4, but the song is somewhat complicated for a newbie to find the starting position for the melody that where it was exactly starting together with rhythm and beats. Actually the starting portion of the melody is the 4th note of the first bar [see anacrusis]* after the Intro ends though the melody was given to accented in the third beat of the 2nd bar with the word Saagar kinaa | re | this is a technique to pleasing the listener by displacing the beats or accents in an unexpected way is usually called syncopating the rhythm or beats and also the song has included another technique is a triplet [Three equal notes played in the time of two of the same value]. You may find it in the Intro part and the passing notes found in between the Verse part.

* Western standards for musical notation often include the recommendation that when a piece of written music begins with an anacrusis, the composer should delete a corresponding number of beats from the written music's final bar in order to keep the number of bars in the entire piece at a whole number.

This post is dedicated to R.D.Burman who is considered one of the seminal music directors of the Indian film industry and one of my favorite music directors.

Note:  as you play the song in a string instrument [Guitar or Violin etc.] apply suitable techniques [such as sliding, hammer-on/off, vibrato, tremolo, bending etc.] on the notes whenever it’s possible to make the melody more humanize without distressing its anima.
